On World Environment Day, what can you do to reduce your environmental impact?

World Environment Day

Yesterday, we talked about what CC Infrastructure Services is doing to help protect the environment. Today, we’re focusing on how each of us can personally make a difference.

One of the most effective ways individuals can support environmental progress is by reducing their personal environmental footprint. But what does this actually mean?

Your footprint is shaped by your everyday choices that impact the planet. This could include anything from the food you eat or the energy you use at home, to the products you buy and the different ways you travel.

These actions also closely align with how we operate as a business, where making thoughtful decisions help reduce emissions, waste and environmental harm.

With that in mind, here are four simple ways you can reduce your carbon footprint:

  1. Change what you eat

Did you know that around 1/4 of global greenhouse gas emissions come from our food systems? Meat and dairy typically have a higher environmental impact than plant‑based foods, so consider incorporating more vegetables, beans and grains into your diet. If you do eat meat or fish, choosing more sustainable options such as buying locally can make a big difference.

Another simple way to help the environment is reducing your food waste. Around ¼ of all food purchased goes uneaten, which contributes between 8 to 10 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions!

  1. Change what (and how) you buy

Across our projects, CC Infrastructure Services prioritises using durable, long‑lasting materials, and aim to use resources as efficiently as possible. At home, we can apply the same mindset by using the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle principle.

  • Reduce means to make smaller/less in amount.
  • Reuse means to use something again, either for its original purpose or repurposed for a different task.
  • Recycle means to convert waste into material that can be used to remake the item, or to make something else. (Source: Travelifestaybetter.co.uk, 2026)

Before buying something new, consider whether it can be repaired, bought secondhand, or recycled responsibly at the end of its life. Small decisions like these support a more circular economy and help to prevent over consumption.

  1. Change how you travel

Walking, cycling or taking the train are all great ways to lower your environmental impact. Even choosing a UK staycation instead of travelling abroad can significantly reduce your carbon footprint.

  1. Switch to clean energy

The energy we use at home accounts for over 20 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. Switching to a renewable energy provider can have a positive impact on the environment as well as your wallet, as can simple habits such as turning off lights and avoiding leaving appliances on standby.

At CC‑Infrastructure Services, we recognise that sustainability extends far beyond the home. Across the transport, local authority, and construction sectors, the way assets are maintained and protected plays a critical role in reducing environmental impact. Through our innovative industrial coatings, surface protection, and asset maintenance solutions, we help extend the lifespan of infrastructure, minimise waste, and reduce the need for carbon-intensive replacements.

Summary

While these individual actions may seem small, collectively they make a powerful and significant difference. From the choices we make at home to the way we maintain and protect critical infrastructure, every step helps to support a more sustainable future.
