The challenge

Our team have a great longstanding relationship with both Ringway Hertfordshire and Hertfordshire County Council. Having completed a number of successful projects over recent years, including two subway Wallspace transformations, we quickly received the order to transform the three dreary subways beneath Chequers roundabout in Welwyn Garden City.

What we can do

Having run-through some possible mural design ideas with the client, the final idea was to create a simple landscape of hills and sunlight  for each subway which depicts the three distinct times of day; dawn, noon and dusk.

Our design team quickly brought the design to life using a series of various colours to reflect each time of day – ready for our painting technicians to distil onto the subways.

Over the years the wing walls of all three subways had become blackened with dirt and were extremely unsightly. The first port of call was to jet wash all six wing walls back to their original state to ensure the entrance/exits to each subway were as new.

The next phase was to prepare and prime the subway walls ready for the mural painting. With the blank canvas prepared, our ICATS accredited team made swift work of transferring the final artwork directly onto the six subway walls.

To ensure maximum protection of the murals, the team swiftly applied a durable anti-graffiti coating to protect the artwork for at least 15 years.

The outcome

With clean lines and laser-eye attention to detail, the murals were completed within project timelines and to budget meaning happy clients, and a happy team.
