Published on: May 1, 2015Linking North and South Thamesmead, Cory Bridge (formerly the A-Bridge) is a key route for pedestrians and cyclists alike. London Borough of Bexley and Thamesmead recognised an increasing number of people were intimidated by the bridge’s dreary and graffiti-tarnished appearance.
The full restoration of Cory Bridge, including industrial painting, vegetation clearance and graffiti removal was commissioned to transform it into a friendly and vibrant landmark.
As part of an existing contract with FM Conway, we submitted a proposal outlining our detailed methodology and given our excellent track record, it was an easy decision to collaborate once again.
We kicked off proceedings by jet washing the internal parapets, eradicating all dirt and foreign matter from the concrete – priming the surface ready for its transformation.
With the footbridge concrete surface now prepared, Our ICATS trained technicians painted the design onto the internal parapets with detailed accuracy. Our surface preparation of the parapets enhanced the vibrancy of the colours to create a really eye-catching finish.
The metal railings at the entrances of the bridge were flaking with paint and needed to be restored. We tackled the surface with a mechanical hand preparation technique, priming the railings surface smooth to optimise the finish of the 2-coat industrial paint system.
Years of nuisance pigeon squatting left the underside parapets of the bridge stained heavily with guano. Our technicians ensured eco-friendly pigeon guano removal using specially formulated ornithological disinfectant to completely kill all bacteria.
To finish off the transformation, we tackled the graffiti on the external parapets. Our effective jet-washing technique made short work of the graffiti making an instant difference to the appearance of the bridge.
Cory Bridge has been transformed into a landmark that London Borough of Bexley and Thamesmead can be proud of. Pedestrians, cyclists and attendees of the local youth centre can once again feel safe travelling using this route.
